How much do Brisbane removalists cost in 2026?

A removalist cost in Brisbane is almost always billed by time. Ours is $69.50 per half hour plus GST for the small truck and $74.50 per half hour plus GST for the large one, both with two removalists on board, on a two-hour minimum, plus a travel fee shown in your written quote. Ranges published by other Brisbane movers put a two-person crew and truck at roughly $100 to $190 per hour including GST, so the unit a price is quoted in matters as much as the number itself.

How much do removalists cost in Brisbane?

Two removalists and a truck, billed by the half hour. Our small truck (25 m³) is $69.50 per half hour + GST and our large truck (50 m³) is $74.50 per half hour + GST. Every booking carries a two-hour minimum, and a travel fee applies, shown in your written quote before you commit to anything.

Written as arithmetic, because half-hourly numbers look smaller at a glance: $69.50 per half hour is $139 per hour plus GST, or $152.90 including GST. The large truck is $149 per hour plus GST, or $163.90 including GST. Both sit on our half-hour rates, with everything the rate covers listed underneath.

That is the rate. The bill is the rate multiplied by the hours, and the hours are where a Brisbane move is won or lost.

Half-hourly, hourly or fixed price: how Brisbane removalists bill

Three billing models are in common use here, and the difference between them is worth more than the headline rate.

Hourly

The most common. A brisbane removalists hourly rate is quoted per hour for a set crew, then rounded up to the next 15 minutes, half hour or full hour. Rounding to the full hour is the expensive one: a job running three hours and ten minutes is billed as four.

Half-hourly

What Movers Brisbane does. After the two-hour minimum, time is counted in half-hour blocks, so a four and a half hour job is billed at four and a half hours. On a small or well-packed move, that is the difference between paying for what you used and paying for a rounding rule.

Fixed price

Fixed price removalists in Brisbane quote one number for the job. It sounds safer, but it has to be padded to the worst version of your move, because the mover carries the risk of the stairs, the lift and the traffic.

None of the three is dishonest. They put the risk in different places. What matters is knowing which one you are quoted, and in which unit.

What a two-hour minimum really means for a small move

It means a booking is billed at two hours even if the work takes 80 minutes. On our small truck that is four half-hour blocks, or $278 plus GST, which is $305.80 including GST, plus the travel fee.

Say that plainly, because most pricing pages do not. With a studio, one bedroom of furniture, or a couch and a fridge, the minimum sometimes costs you time you did not use.

Past two hours it stops mattering, and most moves run past two hours. From our experience a studio or one-bedroom takes two to four hours, so plenty of small removals in Brisbane clear the minimum anyway.

Worth knowing: a two-hour minimum is not a two-hour deposit. Some Brisbane movers collect the first two hours up front and bill the balance later. Ask which one you are agreeing to, and what happens if the job runs short.

The travel fee, explained

A travel fee covers the truck getting to you and getting back. The crew is on the clock from the depot, not from your driveway, and no mover can absorb that across a city this spread out.

How it is charged varies. Some Brisbane removalists bill a flat call-out fee, some bill depot-to-depot time at the hourly rate, and some fold an hour of travel into every job. Movers Brisbane charges a fee, shown in your written quote before you book.

Brisbane geography makes this more than a detail. A depot on the wrong side of the river from both addresses, or a job crossing the city at 8am, adds real minutes. Ask each mover for the travel figure as a dollar amount, not a description. Both are answered in our booking FAQ.

What is included in the rate, and what usually is not

Our rate includes both removalists, the truck, straps, trolleys, protective blankets, free shrink-wrapping, furniture disassembly and reassembly, and your furniture carried into the rooms you choose. Standard goods in transit and public liability insurance are included too.

Across the industry, these extras commonly sit outside a headline rate. Ask about each before you book, whoever you book:

None of those are unreasonable in themselves. They become a problem when they are not in the quote. How we write ours down sits in our booking terms.

How long will a Brisbane move take?

This is the number that sets your bill, so treat any table of it, ours included, as an estimate. From our own jobs:

Home sizeTypical durationHalf-hour blocksSmall truck at $69.50 + GST
Studio or 1 bedroom2 to 4 hours4 to 8$278 to $556 + GST
2 bedrooms3 to 5 hours6 to 10$417 to $695 + GST
3 bedrooms4 to 6 hours8 to 12$556 to $834 + GST
4 or more bedrooms6 to 10 hours12 to 20Usually the large truck at $74.50 + GST

Every figure excludes the travel fee and assumes reasonable access. Access is the biggest single variable and can swing a move by an hour or more, which is why a removalist cost calculator built on bedroom count alone is a rough guide at best.

A worked example: a two-bedroom unit, New Farm to Paddington

Hypothetical, to show the arithmetic rather than quote your move. A two-bedroom unit in New Farm, ground floor with the truck in the driveway, moving to a lift building in Paddington with the lift booked from 9am, boxes packed and stacked by the door.

Say it runs four hours. That is eight half-hour blocks, and eight blocks at $69.50 is $556 plus GST, or $611.60 including GST, plus the travel fee in the quote. If the lift is tied up and the crew waits 40 minutes, add two more blocks.

What pushes a Brisbane removalist cost over the estimate

Almost always access, almost never the furniture. Here is what moves the clock either way, measured in billable time rather than dollars.

Three of those are close to unique to this city. High-set Queenslanders put a flight of external stairs between the truck and the front door, with under-house storage nobody has emptied. The apartment belt through Newstead, Teneriffe, South Brisbane, West End and Hamilton runs on body corporate lift bookings, and many buildings enforce a set move window. Inner streets around Paddington, Red Hill and Highgate Hill are narrow and permit-parked, so a temporary parking permit is worth organising through Brisbane City Council; check their current fee and lead time. We handle apartments, houses and workplaces, listed under what we move.

The cheapest hourly rate is rarely the cheapest move

Search cheap removalists in Brisbane and you will find headline rates below ours. Some are genuinely cheaper. Some are the same number wearing a smaller hat. Four things turn a low rate into a big invoice.

  1. The rate is per mover. $75 per hour sounds excellent until it is charged twice for a two-person crew.
  2. The rate excludes GST and the comparison does not. Ten per cent is not a rounding error on a six-hour job. Movers Brisbane quotes plus GST, with the inclusive figure alongside.
  3. A call-out fee adds an hour before anyone lifts anything. On a two-hour job that is a fifty per cent increase on the labour.
  4. The rounding rule is hidden. Rounding to the next full hour can add most of an hour to a job that finished five minutes in.

Price the whole job before comparing anything. Here are the questions that expose a cheap quote.

Removalist rates published by other Brisbane movers

We are not going to invent an average removalist cost, because we have not measured one and neither have most of the sites publishing one. What we can do is show what other movers and marketplaces publish for Brisbane, with the source beside each figure. All read on 10 September 2026; prices change.

Published byPublished Brisbane figureUnit and GST
Airtasker$103 to $172 per hour, two moversPer hour, inclusive
Upmove$100 to $150 per hour; a two-bed unit over five hours modelled at $500 to $750Per hour, inclusive
Find a MoverAverage $142 per hour, 80 per cent of quotes $124 to $171Per hour, inclusive
MuvalIts Brisbane data panel gives a typical $79 per half hourPer half hour, inclusive
Brisbane Removalists$179 per hour Monday to Friday, $209 Saturday, $239 Sunday; another Brisbane operator publishes from $190 per hour plus a call-out feePer hour, inclusive
Happy Removals$120 per hour for a 4.5 tonne truck, $140 for a 10 tonne, plus call-outPer hour, GST excluded

Two things to take from that. The units are not comparable at a glance: Muval's $79 per half hour converts to roughly $158 per hour, above the top of the hourly ranges Airtasker and Upmove publish for the same city. GST status is stated on some pages and not others. Do both conversions, or the comparison is not one.

Ours converts the same way. Small truck: $69.50 per half hour plus GST, $139 per hour plus GST, $152.90 including GST. Large truck: $74.50, $149 and $163.90. See both truck rates without filling in a form.

Nine ways to cut the hours on moving day

Under any hourly rate, time is the only lever you have. These work.

  1. Be fully packed the night before. The biggest one, worth an hour or more.
  2. Stack sealed, labelled boxes by the front door.
  3. Use small boxes for books and tins, so nobody wrestles a 40 kg carton downstairs.
  4. Take the beds apart and bag the bolts to the frame.
  5. Empty the under-house storage, shed and garage the weekend before.
  6. Hold two parking spaces with your own cars overnight.
  7. Book the lift at both ends, and overlap the bookings.
  8. Defrost the fridge 24 hours ahead, door ajar.
  9. Keep your phone on and stay reachable all morning.

Most of that is planning rather than muscle, so it belongs on a calendar. We have set it out as a week-by-week Brisbane moving checklist.

What else moving house in Brisbane costs

The removalist is one line in the budget. If you are working out how much it costs to move house overall, the same fortnight usually holds a bond clean, the exit condition report, mail redirection, connections at the new place and any overlap in rent. None go through us, and all are easier to price once the date is locked, which is another reason to sort what to sort before moving day early.

How to get an accurate quote for your Brisbane move

A price over the phone with no detail is a guess, and a guess turns into a surprise. To quote properly we need six things.

Tell Movers Brisbane those on the form and you get the truck size, the half-hourly rate, the two-hour minimum and the travel fee written down before you commit. Ask any other mover for the same six things in writing. When you are ready, get a written quote for your move.

Frequently asked questions

How much do removalists charge per hour in Brisbane?

Our small truck works out at $139 per hour plus GST, or $152.90 including GST, and the large truck at $149 plus GST, or $163.90 including GST. Both include two removalists, and we bill in half-hour blocks. Ranges published by other Brisbane movers sit at roughly $100 to $190 per hour including GST.

What is the cheapest day to hire movers?

Our rate is the same every day, so the saving is not in the rate. It is in how long the job takes. A Tuesday or Wednesday mid-month is quieter on the roads and easier to book a lift for. Fridays, Mondays and month-end are busiest, because settlements and rental turnovers land then.

How much does it cost to relocate a 3 bedroom house in Brisbane?

From our experience a three-bedroom home takes four to six hours. On our large truck at $74.50 per half hour plus GST, six hours is 12 blocks, or $894 plus GST, plus the travel fee. Four hours is $596 plus GST. That is an estimate, not a promise: stairs, parking and packing state move it either way.

How much should you budget for a move?

Budget for the removalist hours, the travel fee, and everything that is not the removalist. Boxes, a bond clean, mail redirection, connection fees and any overlap in rent land in the same fortnight. Use the top of our duration estimate, and add an hour for unseen access.

How much do removalists get paid an hour?

That is a wages question rather than a price question, and the two are not the same number. What you pay covers two removalists, the truck, fuel, insurance, equipment, maintenance and driving between jobs, so the quoted rate is nowhere near what one person takes home. Award rates are set by the Fair Work Ombudsman.

What are red flags with moving companies?

A rate published nowhere, a refusal to put the travel fee in writing, a quote silent on GST, a vague crew size, and a deposit demanded before anything is written down. None are illegal. They just mean the number agreed on the phone is not the one on the invoice. If you are weighing two quotes, here is how to compare two Brisbane removalist quotes.
